Stepping Into Freedom: Rotary and Physicians for Peace Team Up for Disability Pride Month

Intramuros, MANILA — July is Disability Pride Month, a time when we focus on empowering our differently-abled brothers and sisters. For Physicians for Peace Philippines (PFPP) and the Rotary Club of Intramuros Manila, this July was more than just a calendar marker; it felt like a surge of real action from the Ilustres of RC Intramuros and the other Rotary Clubs of D3810 and D3820 who sent beneficiaries. This past Saturday, July 12, 2025, PFPP celebrated in a big way, teaming up with Rotary partners to deliver not just aid, but genuine mobility and newfound freedom.

More Than Just Devices

The scope of this ongoing grant is extensive, covering vital assistive devices: prostheses, orthoses, spinal orthoses, and ankle orthoses. PFPP’s partnerships extended the reach of the initiative. Thanks to The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, wheelchairs and other vital mobility devices were also provided during the event.

This massive initiative required significant collaboration. A heartfelt thanks goes out to the Association of Filipino Prosthetists and Orthotists, whose expertise was invaluable, and to the Rotary friends who made this grant a reality: Past District Governor Gina GS Sy and Past District Governor Arnold Mendoza both of RID 3820, Past District Governor Jackie Rodriguez Of RID 3810, Governor Veronica Yu and Past District Governor Johnny Gaw Yu of RID 3780 and Governor Jun Sub Jeong Od D3590 Korea. The Knights of Columbus also deserve recognition for providing the venue in Intramuros.

A New Lease on Life

The energy that Saturday was incredible. Thanks to the “Walking Free” Global Grant, amputees got their new prostheses, but what really happened was a shift in spirit. Those smiles, the pure relief and renewed freedom, they showed exactly what happens when we work together.

The event truly underscored the power of partnership. As the hashtag circulated—#TogetherMuchCanBeDone and #RotaryAndPhysiciansforPeacePhilippinesUNITEFORGOOD—it wasn’t just digital enthusiasm; it was a reflection of real-world impact. Rotary and Physicians for Peace Philippines continue to prove that when organizations work hand in hand, the possibilities for positive change are limitless.
