Consocep, Tigaon, Camarines Sur – It was quite the journey, involving a significant ride and a few meters walk, to reach Tribo, a remote barangay in Consocep, Tigaon, Camarines Sur. But for Physicians for Peace Philippines (PFPP), every step was worth it to bring vital health services to a community considered among the “roads less traveled” or “last mile schools” in the country.
PFPP arrived in Tribo with two of its vital health programs: Save the Sight of Children and Breast and Cervical Screening for reproductive-aged women. These initiatives directly tackle critical gaps in the Philippine health system, especially in areas with limited access to medical care.
The mission’s success truly underscored the power of collaboration. We are profoundly grateful to the Manila Elks Club, whose generous sponsorship was the very foundation of this outreach. Essential support also came from two dedicated, licensed Optometrists from the Optometric Association of the Philippines (OAP), who diligently performed comprehensive vision screenings for the children. And, underscoring the vital nature of local cooperation, the Rural Health Unit of Tigaon, Camarines Sur, provided crucial assistance, a testament to how community partnerships are truly indispensable in healthcare.
Beyond the medical services, the team also experienced the warmth of local hospitality. A delicious and much-appreciated lunch was generously hosted by Dr. Dada Llaguno, a friend and fellow Tigaoeña, at the scenic Hibiscus camp.
This mission to Tribo exemplifies PFPP’s commitment to ensuring Available, Accessible, and Appropriate healthcare for all Filipinos, no matter how remote their location. It’s a powerful reminder that indeed, #Togethermuchcanbedone when organizations and individuals unite for a common cause.
